adventures!!!!!!

cooking for animals is one huge adventure, isnt it? we ended up making a soup for dancer that he loved! it sounds really gross but oh it was yummy! i dont have a name for it yet, so if you could post a comment and tell me what name you like or what you came up with. or you can vote if i make a poll about this.

un-named soup---
1 spearmint candy
5 butterscotch candies
1/2 cup bran
1/4 cup corn meal
1/4 cup corn oil
1 apple, chopped
4-5 cups warm water

fill a pot with 4-5 cups of water. set and stove top and drop in spearmint candy and the butterscotch candies. turn temperature up to high or maximum. stir every few minutes until the candy is totally melted. the water should be a yellowy color and smell yummy. mix in bran, corn meal, oil, and apple. serve to your horse!

hope you liked it!

soup day

sorry if the main focus of this blog is hrose stuff. i can help you guys...sorry if you dont have a horse/pony but i hope its still interesting. so each horse will get a muffin. thats not too bad. the muffins arent too big... or tooo sugary or... the list could go on and on. and i really want to make them a soup to go with their muffin brunch. maybe i will make the soup for our oldest horse dancer. the rest will have to deal with a muffin. and a few mints, too, of course! besides, dancer really does need the extra calories and pampering. he is gettin on in his years, so a treat could help. and i just got that new bottle of corn oil which i have really been wanting to try. these recipes havent been tested yet but they arent baked or anyhting and they dont really need testing. i know the horses will like these. so i am making one for dancer. here they are :0)

munch 'n crunch veggie&fruit stew:
1&3/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup bran
1/4 cup quaker oats
1 apple, sliced
1 carrot, sliced
regular feed

mix warm water, bran, oats apple and carrot. then sprinkle enoguh grain to cover the top about 1/4 inch. serve to horse.

steamy muffin side slurp:
2 cups warmish hottish water
1/4 cup karo syrup
1 carrot, grated
1 apple, grated
1 cup regular feed
dash of corn oil

mix all together and serve warm.

hm thats all i have for today. hope it helps!

friday!!!

i love fridays, dont you? they are just so great! and so the weekend begins...lol! after a long and heated debate on the walk to school, emilie and i have decided on making bran muffin cups for the horses. so here it is. *just to let you kow, all recipes are tested before they are posted. if they arent, you will be notified*

carrot bran cups:
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 cups bran
1 carrot, grated
2 cups water
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda

preheat oven to 350* F and generously grease muffin tin and set aside.

in a large bowl, mix all ingredients together. this hsould form a thick batter/dough. scoop into muffin tins until they are 1/2 to 3/4 full. bake for 25-35 minutes, makes six muffins.

these are so amazing! last time i made them, i got sortof um, "in the moment" and i added 2 extra carrots, and apple and about 1/2 bottle of molassess! it ended up making around 20 muffins! this time i promise promise promise myself to not get crazy and i'll follow the recipe. LOL :D

the horses love the muffins. apparently they were super delish! oh gosh im soooooooo excited!!!!! i get to ride maddie! yay! i always do bareback. its so fun to gallop really fast with out a saddle. and if you fall in the snow, it doesnt hurt. unless theres a rock under the snow or something :(

carrot desert sticks:
2 carrots, halved, and the cut those halfs, in half
1/2 cup molassess
1/2 cup karo syrup
1 cup bran

mix molassess&karo syrup in a bowl. roll carrots slices in this mixture. then roll that in bran. the bran should stick really well. serve to a happy horse! or a sad horse becuase this will make a sad horse happy :)

okay.....

i dont know why it posted twice or even posted at all. sorry :) with that said, im so excited for friday! my friend emilie is coming over and yea im so excited! and on saturday we are going to my barn together!!! yay! before we leave we are going to make tons of cool horse stuff to take them. haha this is going to be so fun. dakota is having bordem issues in the pasture and is destroying the tractor, so we are going to make some toys :D all these recipes/ideas came from "the ultimate guide to pampering your horse" by june v. evers. this is a fantabulous book! so look into buying it...a total must!

jug of oats toy:
clean a plastic milk jug and pour in one cup of oats. cut a tiny hole in the bottom, just enough for one or two kernels to fall out.put the cap on and tie it to the rafter or ceiling beam with bailing twine and let your horse enjoy. dont use a nail becuase he may pull out the nail and get hurt. i think i am going to tie mine the the fence of the pasture, becuase the horses spend about 8 hours out there.

*Jolly balls might be a good toy but our horses never liked them. guess it depends on the horse :D *

let your horse run over traffic cones too:

traffic cones make great toys and your horse will love stomping and chewing and tossing them. use the big rubber kind as opposed to the small plastic kind.

and treats too! how fun! that morning we are making... well im not sure yet. sorry theres no recipe for you! i was just going to take some apples, a few carrots, maybe some animal crackers. too much? i was going to top it off with a few butterscotch treats. keep in mind though, that im serving 3 horses. maybe i will take a few homemade treats though. hmmmm not sure. oh heres an idea! its not tested yet though, so it might not totally work. you can do the honors of experimenting, if you want ;)

dough-a-licous horse yum yums:
5 butterscotch candies, crushed
1/2 cup bran
1/2 cup oatmeal
3/4 cup molassess
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup karo syrup
2 tbsp brown sugar

combine all and roll into balls. bake on a cookie sheet at 2 in. apart for 10 minutes at 350.

if anyone is brave nough to try this, let me know how they come out, if you changed it at all...etc.

thanks,

all types of treats for all types of pets

hi everyone? hows it going? i am going to share some of my favorite pet teat recipes. and i cant think of just one type of pet to write about, so i am writing about tons? isnt that exciting? by the way, thanks in advence for all the helpful votes! okay. so first, my favorite rabbit treat collections. please make a note that treats shouldnt make up more than 5% of daily food intake. so about a tablespoon or just one. dont overdue on the harmful sugars.

banana oat nummers:
1 banana, mashed alot lot lot
1 cup oatmeal
1 teaspoon honey

combine all and mix really really well. drop by spoon ful onto a waxed cookie sheet and bake 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees. keep in mind baking time might vary for any recipe, so always be sure they dont burn. check on them frequently!

whole oat mixed fruit patty drops;
2 tablespoons whole oats
3/4 cup rabbit food (the plain kind wihtout anything funny mixed in)
1 small jar fruity baby food (blackberry/apple is a humungo hit!)
3 tablespoons molassess

again, combine all these in a big bowl and drop by teaspoonful onto greased cookie sheet. you can shape them if you want. bake 5-10 minutes at 350.

baked raisin treat:
on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper, lay down a bunch of raisins. bake 8-10 minutes at 350. this sounds really weird but bunnies LOVE this! the raisins get really hard and crunchy and maybe even more flavorful. be careful. raisins get super super super hot. so give them at least 45 minutes to cool before you touch them. dont do what i did and grab them right away (total blonde).

now onto kitty treats. i have had many failures as far as these go, my cats are really picky i guess.

cheese buiscuits:
3/4 cup wheat flour
3/4 cup shredded cheese(any kind)
1/4 cup yogurt
1/4 cup cornmeal

combine all and roll segments into balls with hands. place on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 for 25 minutes approx.

salmon strip:
grill a thin strip of salmon and serve. this one is a crowd pleaser!

meaty numerumers:
1 jar turkey baby food(small)
1/2 cup wheat germ
1/2 cup dry milk powder
2 teaspoon molassess
1&1/4 teaspoon catnip

combine all. form small balls and place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. flatten balls with a spoon. bake 8-10 minutes at 250 degrees.

now we get into more dog treats. i love dog treats because dogs seem to like whatever you make them! i made some faulty cat treats the cats didnt like, but the dog loved them, LOL. who knew?

spinoff of doggie dallops;
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup cornmeal
1 jar meaty baby food
1 cup beef broth

combine all and form as you would doggie dollops. then bake 8-10 minutes at 350 degrees on a parchment papered cookie sheet.

taditional buiscuits:
1 cup rye flour
1 cup white flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 egg
3 tablespoons veggie oil
3/4 chicken broth

mix all together in a large bowl. knead doughll into 1/2 inch thickness. use cookies cutters to form shapes. bake for 15 minutes at 400 on a cookie sheet. parchment paper works well for these.

horse treats!!! yay i love this! woohooooo!!!!!!

horse spring time salad:

2 apples, chopped
3 carrots, chopped
1 cup apple cider, fresh and warm
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon feed

mix all in a feed tub/bucket. serve to your horse for a refreshing taste of spring!

banana treat;
1 banana
molassess

dip banana into molassess and feed. trust me, its yummy!

stuffed pumpkin:

1 small(very small!) pumpkin, carve out like you would w/ a halloween pumpkin
3 peppermints
1/4 apple, diced
1/4 carrot, chopped
3 sugar cubes
molassess

stuff pumpkin and drizzle with molassess. put top on if you want and serve to your horse.

hope this helps! thanks for reading1 i will be back with more recipes later!

quick-fixie treats

today's article is dedicated to those moments when we are rushing to get to the barn and horses, but we dont have time to bake any fancy, elaborate treats. i find myself in those moments alot, so i have some tips. okay... so i was at the barn yesterday going about with the usual buisness and found out that the horses LOVE butterscotch candy! right before we turned them out i let them each try a few peices, and i found their new favorite premade treat :) i just bought these in bulk at the local grocery store. i also picked up some pepper/spear mints. if you ever go to the local feed store, see if you can pick up some Mrs.Pastures cookies for horses. they are really good and actually not too expensive. i get my from a tack store called Valley Tack. there is always the "traditional" route of apples and carrots, which you could also do. in a pinch, you could heat a few carrots up in the microwave and drizzle some molassess on them for a quick treat. a handful of raisins works good too. some quick dog treats are, of course, a ready made buiscuit, or you could opt to go healthy. try a baby carrot or some broccoli. even a slice of banana might do the trick. for cat treats that are easy and ready made, try a little bit of milk or a pinch of catnip. rabbit treats(i will get into recipes later)that are premade and healthy...hmmmm..... if you go to www.binkybunny.com and click on "store" they have some really good healthy treats. you could also try a peice of fruit. little peices of carrot work good too becuase they are sugary and yummy. i do understand that some of these seem obvious, but they are premade, fast, easy and some people dont use them. back on the topic of premade horse treats(i could write about this forever!!!)some dry oatmeal would work. twizzlers/licorice are yummy. we had a pony a while back who used to really like strawberries and sugar cubes. here is a pretty quick treat recipe:

hay flake cake:
(healthy and yummy...a bonus!)

1 flake hay
1 handful regular feed
2 carrots
2 apples, quartered
molassess

lay hay flake on floor of stall or out in the pasture/enclosure. sprinkle your horses feed on top and drizzle with molassess. then break carrots into peices and place on hay. for a final touch add apple quarters. serve to a horse! this treat is gret for long winter days spent in the pasture. it gives horses something to do!

dog treat day

not too long ago, i came up with this recipe for my miniature poodle, beau. i call them simple doggie dollops, becuase they are, well, simple! i let him taste test them and they worked out as really good, easy to make treats. be ready though, the dough is really thick and sticky!!!

simple doggie dollops;
2 cups white flour
1/2 cup oatmeal
1&1/4 cup chicken or beef broth

combine all ingredients so they are blended well. its going to be really sticky and thick. lay some parchment paper on a cookie sheet and drop the dough onto it. keep the "dollops" about 2 inches apart. for size of dollops, i did about the size of 2 tablespoons combined. then bake 8-10 minutes at 350 F. these are going to look very pale, but they taster great. dont forget to refridgerate them because they have no preseratives and they might grow mold if not refridgerated.

fist time blogging :)

hi everyone... its my first time blogging...so bear with me. i dont know what to do. so i think im just suppossed to write. so i will. i love baking and cooking for my pets. it is really fun. it is a great way to let go of negative energy and anger. and it is fun to see what i can create. i have been cooking for my pets and friends pets for a long time, but just now i decided to start bloggin about it. if anyone is out there reading this, i have some recipes i will share with you as the time goes by. lately, it has been getting very cold here in olmsted falls and i have been making bran mashes for our horses. dakota, out miniature horse gets about 1 cup of bran, maddie, my pont get about 3 and dancer, our horse gets alot (5-6). i serve them warm on really cold days and the horses seem to love them. i have a recipe for each horse.

dakota's simple mash:
1 cup bran
1 cup hot water
1 carrot, sliced tiny

boil water (or simmer) and mix in with bran. top with sliced carrot and serve when cool enough to eat.

maddie's delish bran mix 'n mash:
3 cups bran
1&1/2 cups hot water
1 apple, quartered
1 pinch sugar
1 cup apple sauce
1/2 cup oatmeal

combine all ingredients with hot water and let cool for a few minutes. serve to horse when it cool enough to eat!!!

dancer's senior mash:
6 cups bran
4 cups hot water
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 carrots, diced
1 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup soybean meal

once again, combine all with really hot water and feed when cool enough to serve and eat.

please remember that bran mashes whouldnt be fed more than once a week becuse too much bran can cause a inability to take calcium into the bones. i feed bran mash every sunday usually. horses arent used to steaming hot foods, so it is best to feed mash warm, and not hot. i hope these recipes help! thanks for reading today!
